2016/17 at Mailjet: What’s happened and what’s to come
2016 has been a rich year for Mailjet. Now is the time to review what we've done, and look forward for what awaits us in 2017.

It’s that time of the year again. In the coming days, you’re going to stuff your face with food, hopefully surrounded by loved ones. You will exchange presents, and before you’ve been able to say “Cheers!”, it will be 2017. You’ll feel sorry (or not, actually) that this year is ending, and look forward to the next one. The second half of December is the perfect time to look back at the past year, but also imagine yourself in the near future. So, what has 2016 been, and what will 2017 be for Mailjet?

2016: Growth, Consolidation, And A New Office
Once again, a lot has happened this year. Mailjet cannot really be seen as a startup anymore: 140 employees in 8 countries, we sound more like an established international company, still we continued to see important growth. We now have 40,000 customers using Mailjet worldwide, on a regular basis, sending more than ONE BILLION emails monthly. Congrats if that includes you!
An improved product for your email needs
On the product side, a lot happened along the road. We launched our email automation tool. We released new and improved versions of Passport - our cherished drag-n-drop email editor that helps you create responsive emails and templates - and now not only allows you to edit your pictures directly in Mailjet but also lets you pick from more ready-made templates and edit your MJML template directly in the drag-n-drop editor. Speaking about Passport, we also released what we call the “Transactional Suite”, which includes the ability to easily edit your transactional emails with Passport, our new Templating Language, and our beloved MJML.
Ah… MJML❤️❤️❤️
The MJML adventure could be the topic of a thrilling novel, but today, we’ll have to make do with a quick paragraph. So long story short: we created an open source framework for email coding, which simplifies the creation of responsive email code - developers and integrators around the world know how painful it is to create a responsive HTML email. It looks like you loved it, since we now have thousands who’ve adopted it (MJML has been downloaded more than 50,000 times), and dozens of contributors promoted the language, writing about it or suggesting new components. And, as mentioned earlier, email developers can work closely with their marketing colleagues, because the MJML framework is compatible with Passport: a template created in MJML can be edited in Passport!
Because, after all, this is what Mailjet is all about: helping developers and marketers collaborate better together with email. The integration of MJML into Passport and the ability to create and edit your transactional emails through the same service are the best examples of this effort.
Stronger servers
Behind the scenes, we reshaped our servers architecture completely. Now, Mailjet is able to process huge volumes of data seamlessly. The best example of this is when we broke our record of emails sent in one day, on Black Friday. Mailjet’s technical structure is now stronger, and ready to face new challenges.
And, last but not least, to face our ever growing team of dedicated email nerds, we moved our HQ to a bigger and brighter office. We may be email nerds, but we need space for our yoga classes.
2017: Safer Emails And User-Friendly Tools
But, rest assured we won’t rest on our laurels. We have big things to come in the coming year, always with the same goal: to ease your emailing life.
That new feature we’re not really supposed to talk about but... we’re too excited about
In the first half of 2017, a new disruptive tool will see the light. Since it is still in development - we have a dedicated task force of awesome developers working on the project - we can’t really unveil all the details. Though, since we’re nice, here’s the wrap-up: thanks to the feature, you’ll be able to better track the emails you send, and be notified depending on the behavior of said emails. Mysterious, uh? But wait until you see the final product, you’ll be just as hyped as we are.
Improved UX and UI
In 2016, we spent a lot of effort to improve your user experience of Mailjet. For those of you who’ve used our services for more than a year, you should have noticed important changes to the workflow since you started using Mailjet. In 2017, we’re going to keep following this path and will focus on the user interface.
We’ll also release new automated scenarios - based on the behavior of your recipients, for example - and you’ll be able to add more complex conditions to your automated workflows.
So, now you see, we still have a lot on our plate! But what helps us continue to move forward is to know that you, our customers, are backing us, to improve the services and facilitate your life. And we will never be able to thank you enough for that.
